Now before anyone comments I know that it is technically cheating to buy gold for Age of Conan but this game really does get ridiculous sometimes. Of course I know you can't get all the best equipment in a couple of hours and Funcom need to keep you playing the game but I think they've definitely overdone it with Age of Conan gold.
We're all used to having to level and grind away killing the same monsters over and over again to build our character. Of course gradually earning gold to buy new stuff and get the coolest equipment is part of the bargain. But I think the balance is completely wrong in Age of Conan - I'm no online gaming novice and I think it's just way too slow to gain any kind of gold. When it becomes so difficult that the game is reduced to mindless tedium of hours of grinding for gold for little gain then the fun has gone out of the experience.
To be honest I was pretty close to quitting AoC out of frustration - I enjoyed the game but I wasn't playing the fun bits - just trying to get gold all the time. My friend a World of Warcraft player suggested that I could buy gold for Age of Conan fairly cheaply which would give me a boost just to get my horse. I have to confess I was tempted but I was also very reluctant to spend real money on gold in a virtual computer game - it didn't seem quite right.
After some hours of deliberation and a certain amount of alcohol I decided on a compromise - I would spend half of what I was contemplating spending on Age of Conan Gold buying a guide which could hopefully help me earn my own gold a bit quicker.
It was a mixed bag to be honest I managed to get three guides - one was a sort of levelling guide as well. The first two were OK but I didn't really learn much new as a lot was from forum posts I'd seen before but the last one was a definite improvement. The detail is excellent - you are told exactly where to go, what to do and what you need to earn loads of gold extremely quickly. All the methods are explained and categorised into different levels and locations - it's so easy I could follow it!
